Railroading and Aviation Events for our Scouts

Posted on Jun 13 2017 - 5:39pm

There are two exciting opportunities for our Scouts to explore the world of Railroading and Aviation!     In June, there is a Railroading Merit Badge day at Knotts Berry Farm, which takes the Scouts behind the scenes to learn everything it takes to keep these "iron horses" running.     Information is on the calendar here.     For Aviation, a volunteer organization called the "Young Eagles" is holding an event in September at the Chino airport to teach our Scouts all about Aviation, and even includes an airplane ride at the end of the day!.    Information about this event is on the calendar link here.       Both of these events are immensely popular and fill to capacity very quickly, so register as soon as possible to secure a spot!       Important note - these events require direct registration via the organizer (information is on each calendar entry), so please sign up on our database to indicate interest, but also follow the additional registration instructions from the event organizers.    If you have any questions, please contact Scoutmaster Adams.

June 4th the Troop will be participating in our annual Celebration of the Arts Festival sponsored by the Yorba Linda Arts Allia

Posted on May 30 2017 - 9:42pm

Greetings Troop 99,

Next Sunday June 4th the Troop will be participating in our annual Celebration of the Arts Festival sponsored by the Yorba Linda Arts Alliance Foundation. If you haven’t done this event before it’s a great opportunity to serve the community, look at all the different booths, enjoy live music and demonstrations and even maybe find a unique gift for father’s day. Day starts off by helping the vendors unload and get set up. During the actual festival Scouts are free to wander (with parental permission / supervision) then we assist with the tear down afterward. The Arts Alliance Foundation has again granted us a spot by the Scout House to set up shop, sell refreshments & baked goods and raise awareness about Scouting.   Here's what we need:    Scouts to arrive at 7:30 and assist with unloading and set up until the festival starts at 10:30.  A few Scouts and Adults to work our table (in 2 hr. shifts) from 10:30am- 4:00pm.  Scouts to assist with tear down from 4:00pm to 5:30.    Baked goods and soft drinks to sell at our booth.   Please sign up on the database and note when you’ll be working and what you can bring. The Troop will be purchasing water and chips, hopefully we can get some good participation with the baked goods.   In preparation for our 4th of July Fundraising event, anyone is welcome to bake brownies. The Brownie mix we use is Ghirardelli Triple Chocolate Brownie mix- follow the instructions for “24 Extra Thick Brownies”.   If you do not have a Costco Membership or want to save a trip there are 3 boxes of Brownie Mix available for purchase at the Scout House ~ $11.00/ box.    For Brownies, please use "Ghirardelli Triple Chocolate Brownie Mix" from Costco (7lb box). Each box includes 6 pouches and will make 45 Brownies total. Follow directions for "24 Extra Thick Brownies--13" x 9" pan (uses 2 pouches). Blend 2/3 cup water, 2/3 cup oil and 2 eggs. Add two pouches of mix and stir until moistened (40 strokes). Bake in 9 x 13 pan 50 - 55 minutes (add 5 minutes for glass pan). Cool completely. Tip: Line each pan with parchment paper or wax paper (letting paper go over edges - makes it easier to take out for cutting). Cool completely before cutting or can get messy. Cut into 15 pieces (3 long cuts x 5 short cuts in pan). Each brownie is approx 3" x 2.5" inches.

Memorial Day

Posted on May 23 2017 - 9:49pm
Memorial Day is a great day to fly your flag, and raise up the red, white and blue! It’s a national holiday honoring those who served our country, and it’s an opportunity to show that pride by flying our emblem of freedom, the flag of the United States.
